Opera Bar

016This is the Opera Bar near the Opera House on Sydney Harbour. It’s an incredibly popular drinking and meeting spot, even though they usually play the most horrible, repetitive techno music. I was here last night for some drinks with friends, although this photo was taken a few months ago now. Highly recommended watering hole, although in the warmer months it’s very crowded and long waits at the bar. Winter is a better time to go — cold but at least you get served much faster!

These steps lead up to the Library at Southern Cross University. The climate in Lismore is sub-tropical, hence the lush green flora.

On the Road Again

Somewhere in Central Queensland, driving out to Biloela. It was rather isolated. I could never live way out there. Too dull, nothing happening. Normally I love driving but the scenery never changed.

Southern Cross University – Library and the “Mountain”

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on November 11, 2008 by Bronwyn

150Yesterday I posted a photo looking down from the “mountain”. This photo is looking up towards where I was standing.

The hill doesn’t really look that steep or even that far — but on a hot summer’s day when the humidity is nearing 100% and it’s 35 degrees Celsius (plus!), it’s a freaking mountain to trek up to the Library or Law School. The Law School is behind the Library, even higher up, where most of my classes were. At least the buildings were air-conditioned, by the time you eventually got there, gasping for breath, moaning for water and sweating profusely.

I still have nightmares about this “mountain”. I only lived a stone’s throw for a few years (when I was living on-campus) but I used to take the bus so that it would drop me off up the hill. It felt lazy but at the same time, everyone else was doing it. Anything to avoid the “mountain”.

Southern Cross University – Plaza

union-plaza-scuI’m standing in front of the library and science blocks, looking down the “mountain” towards the Union Plaza Building, where the gym and, more importantly, the bar are!

In the top centre of the hills is where I used to live on Chilcott Drive. If you can make out the lone palm tree, that’s where my house was.

Southern Cross University

southern-cross-universitySouthern Cross University — where I went to “study” Law from 2000-2006. It looks isolated in this photo because it’s term break. Picture is not clear because I took it from inside the car, being too lazy to get out and take the photo!

More photos of the campus to come.
